Issue Position: Synthetic and Illicit Drugs

Issue Position

Date: Nov. 5, 2012
Location:

As Attorney General, David Freed will lead against the scourge of synthetic drugs. These are not harmless drugs. The chemical formulations are creating dangerous highs and erratic, dangerous behavior.

Last year, David was a leader of the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association quest to ban synthetic drugs. And yet, as soon as the formulations were banned, nefarious chemists were devising new formulations to get in the hands of users, addicts and worst of all --experimenting kids.

Right now, by and large--this battle is being waged at retail locations. David firmly believes that law enforcement must attack synthetic drug trafficking at distribution points and sources.

As Attorney General, David Freed will create a Synthetic Drug Task Force to wage war against this national problem. He'll seek cooperative solutions and work with law enforcement agencies, state government, our governor and the legislature to find ways to be responsive to this evolving threat. Just as Pennsylvania beat back the epidemic of crystal meth, David believes Pennsylvania can stop synthetic drugs in their tracks.

Freed will also use the Attorney Generals Drug Task Force program -- in cooperation with the Pennsylvania State Police -- to streamline drug investigations so we can get a choke hold on the business of illegal drugs, not just the street level dealers.
