The 950-member Riverside County Medical Association has formally endorsed Dr. Raul Ruiz (D-Coachella) for Congress in the November election.

No surprise that the group of physicians backed one of their own for his stance on health care, Ruiz' main campaign issue.

"Dr. Ruiz understands the challenges facing patients, physicians and the health care system. As a local doctor he will work hard to insure the best outcome for our community as health care reform continues to unfold", said Dr. Joseph Lee, President of the Riverside County Medical Association. "Dr. Ruiz has been dedicated to the recent successful endeavor to bring to fruition the UC Riverside Medical School and is committed to working to find ways to alleviate the severe shortage of doctors in Riverside County."

The UC Riverside Medical School will begin taking applications this week for its first classes in 2013.

"Affordable health care is one of the most important issues facing Americans," Ruiz said as the thanked the RCMA for it's endorsement. "Half of the people who come into my ER rely on Medicare. We must protect and preserve this important program, and ensure that we keep it strong for seniors and future generations."
