Location: Ames, IA

Farmers across the 4th District are standing with Christie Vilsack in the 4th Congressional District race. The Vilsack campaign today announced the Farmers for Vilsack group, which shows wide support for Vilsack's commitment to farmers and creating new, bio-based job opportunities, which will grow the 4th District economy and strengthen middle class families.

Christie Vilsack is running for Congress to be a consistent and strong voice for Iowa farmers and the economy in rural America. Vilsack knows that passing a Farm Bill is crucial to farmers in the 4th District and that inaction by members of Congress, including Congressman King, who voted to adjourn until after the election instead of fight for a Farm Bill, is not what's best for Iowa.

"I'm grateful to have the support of farmers from across the 4th District. As a member of Congress, I will be a consistent advocate for farmers and work everyday to make sure that farmers and our small towns and cities have the stability and predictability they deserve, which begins by passing a Farm Bill," said Christie Vilsack. "In Iowa we share the values of hard work, responsibility, and community. Our farmers are perfect examples of these values. The 4th District has the richest agricultural land in the world and our farmers work hard each and everyday to feed and fuel the world and are tremendous stewards of our agricultural land in Iowa. They deserve a consistent advocate who will work hard for them, too."

Farmer Chris Petersen of Clear Lake, will serve as a co-chair for the Farmers for Vilsack group, along with Chris Henning of Jefferson and Farm Bureau member Doug Thompson of Kahawha. Earlier today, the Farmers for Vilsack co-chairs held a conference call with members of the media, during which they highlighted Congressman King's lack of leadership on the Farm Bill and Christie Vilsack's support for rural Iowa.

Chris Petersen: "I know Christie is adamant about getting a Farm Bill put in place as soon as possible. We need this Farm Bill wrapped up and done as soon as possible. . .It seems like Representative King is a follower, not a leader, the only way I see him leading is by making these outrageous statements, which I feel distracts from the problems and the issues having to do with rural America. We need to move forward with a positive agenda, and a positive message with good solutions, and again, that's Christie Vilsack."

Chris Henning: "To go on vacation leaving things undone and unsaid and to basically ignore the whole idea. I'm just very disappointed in Congressman King, it seems he doesn't represent his constituents at all."

Doug Thompson: "We need a farm bill and Congressman King has not been as helpful as he could have been in the House in moving that legislation forward. In fact, he has been quite the obstacle."
