Tobias Says Jenkins Seeks to Shift Blame

Statement

Date: Oct. 3, 2012
Location: Topeka, KS

Candidate Tobias Schlingensiepen issued a statement on Wednesday, calling Congresswoman Jenkins a Washington insider who is trying to run from her record.

Schlingensiepen responded to the Congresswoman's demand that he apologize to her. The demand came during the taping of a debate on Tuesday night. (Detail on Jenkins' statement and the debate is at the bottom of this release.)

On Wednesday Schlingensiepen said:

"Demanding personal apologies is an attempt to shift the focus from Congresswoman Jenkins' professional failures. I have not and will not campaign against the personal life of my opponent. However, the voters of the 2nd District deserve to know that Congresswoman Jenkins is a career politician who has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the banking, finance and insurance industries while voting again and again to support their interests and the same reckless policies that put our nation on the brink of financial collapse.

"This is the type of blame-shifting and lack of accountability that makes perfect sense to a Washington insider, but doesn't do any good for the voters of the 2nd District."
