Scott Recognized as Legislative Champion by the Justice Roundtable

Location: Washington, DC

At an awards reception last night, Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security, was recognized as a Legislative Champion by The Justice Roundtable. The Justice Roundtable is a diverse coalition of over 100 national organizations working to reform the U.S. justice system. Congressman Scott was recognized as a Legislative Champion for his work on the Fair Sentencing Act and the Second Chance Act.

"I am honored to be recognized as a Legislative Champion by the Justice Roundtable," said Rep. Scott. "For ten years, the Justice Roundtable has relentlessly fought to reform our justice system. I have had the privilege to work with this dedicated group in successfully advocating for two critical pieces of legislation ¬-- the Fair Sentencing Act of 2010, which reduced the discriminatory 100-to-1 sentencing disparity between crack and powder cocaine, and the Second Chance Act of 2007, which invests in evidence-based reentry programs to reduce recidivism and save taxpayer dollars. We have more work to do, but I look forward to partnering with the Roundtable in the months and years ahead to achieve other urgently needed reforms to the federal criminal justice system."
