The deregulators have had mostly their way since the '80s, and there have been many negative impacts as a result. For instance, the recent sub-prime mortgage loan meltdown was caused by usurious practices which were quite illegal in this country not very long ago. Would we have been better off if those regulations were not lifted? The answer is obviously yes. So-called watchdog agencies, such as the FDA, EPA, SEC, etc., are now almost entirely staffed by industry shills, for whom public safety is at best a minor concern. It can't go on. I'll do everything I can to protect New Yorkers from threats to their health, be they physical or financial.
