As an environment engineer, Rick Catlin is uniquely qualified to lead the fight to make sure this resource is protected and preserved for future generations to enjoy. As a county commissioner, Rick has been the leader in finding a sustainable solution to preserve the beaches, waterways, inlets, and river that make New Hanover County a special place to live. He led the County in finding solutions to EPA's sulfur dioxide non-attainment designation by working directly with the top decision makers in Washington and by adding two additional air quality monitors in the county to make sure our citizens were breathing clean air far below the SO2 standards. Rick has initiated and will remain the leader of a four county effort to study and plan for a coastal reservoir that will not only insure that our grandchildren have adequate water supplies, but also will utilize the frequent tropical events along the coast to capture fresh water to assist in providing an environmental base flow in the Cape Fear River during periods of drought. As our next state representative, we can all be assured that Rick Catlin will work to make a wonderful place to live an even greater place to live, work and raise a family.
