I agree with the words of Alexis de Tocqueville who wrote at our country's founding, "America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great."
My Christian faith is foundational to my political philosophy. I'm pro-life, and I supported the marriage amendment, which defined marriage as a relationship between one man and one woman.
I believe public service is a noble calling, and our state's serious challenges demand that we restore honor, humility, and honesty to our politics. My faith teaches me that I have a higher standard to hold my life to, and by God's grace, I will never embarrass you or betray your trust.
We can immediately institute some common-sense reforms to restore faith in our system of self-government. I will work to pass a voter ID bill, because voter fraud is an insult to all who have fought to keep our country free. Likewise, no soldier ever fought for self-serving politicians to carve out special treatment for themselves. Yet legislators currently receive special retirement perks. I will reform our state pension system to give legislators the same retirement pensions as every other state employee.
