By cutting Local Government Aid (LGA), the current Legislature has forced local government to make many hard decisions. Do we raise property taxes or cut essential civic services? To maintain essential services, cities and counties have to replace those funds the only way they can, by raising property taxes This at a time when property values are going down and there is a mortgage crisis. To make matters worse, the 2011 Legislature voted to cut our homestead credit, raising property taxes on every property owner in Minnesota.
My commitment to you, is that if elected I will work hard to restore the homestead credit and be a voice for the needs of rural Minnesota.
