Blog: Anniversary of Don't Ask Don't Tell Repeal

Statement

Today is the one year anniversary of the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell. As a cosponsor of the repeal, I am proud to have played a role in promoting equality in our country and in our military. Our military has demonstrated time and again that it is stronger when it is inclusive of all Americans. Every time we break down barriers - from desegregation to expanding the role of women to repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell - our military becomes stronger. Repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell is one step on the long path towards equality for the LGBTQ community. The U.S. is a country where you should not be judged by your sexual orientation; and I am committed to fighting for full equality when I return to Congress.
