Cummings Issues Statement on Federal Reserve's Decision to Support Economic Growth

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and senior member of the Joint Economic Committee, issued the following statement after the Federal Reserve announced a new round of bond buying to aid economic recovery.

"I welcome today's announcement that the Federal Reserve will continue to take action to help support our economy, as we know that more must be done to put Americans back to work.

" I commend Chairman Bernanke for his resolve in using the tools of the Fed consistent with its dual mandate to support maximum employment and stable prices, particularly in the face of Republicans' continued insistence that the Fed simply do nothing.

"However, Congress must do its part, and I call on my Republican friends to stop playing politics and work across the aisle to pass legislation that will create jobs."
