Major General Timothy Lowenberg, Retired Adjutant General of Washington, Endorses Derek Kilmer

Press Release

Location: Unknown

Major General Timothy Lowenberg, the recently retired Adjutant General of Washington, has announced that he has endorsed Derek Kilmer for Congress. Major General Lowenberg has never publicly endorsed a political candidate prior to his endorsement of State Senator Kilmer, the Democratic candidate to succeed Norm Dicks as the representative of Washington's 6th Congressional District.

From 1999 to his retirement in July 2012, Major General Lowenberg commanded Washington's Army and Air National Guard forces and was Director of the State's Emergency Management and Enhanced 911 programs.

Major General Lowenberg has also agreed to become the Chairman of Veterans for Kilmer, the Kilmer campaign's new service members advisory and support group, and co-host a tour of veterans meetings and roundtables across the district with Senator Kilmer.

"I am supporting Derek because of his intellectual rigor, work ethic and diligence in making well-informed, fact-based decisions on policy issues," said Major General Lowenberg. "He is knowledgeable about foreign and domestic security matters and committed to serving those who serve our nation in uniform. He will be a Congressman our service members and their loved ones can count on -- and will reflect great credit on the citizens of his district."

For his work assisting military service workers, veterans, and their families in finding housing, employment, educational opportunities, and small businesses success, Kilmer has received the "Legislator of the Year" Award from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the "Glenn Galbreath" Award from the Northwest Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, and has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Defense's Military Community and Family Policy Division.

"I believe that if you serve our country, we should have your back," said Senator Kilmer. "I am committed to working with Major General Lowenberg and other leaders of our veterans' community to ensure that all service members -- past and present -- and all military families receive the opportunities and benefits they have earned through their service to our country."

Senator Kilmer works as the Vice President of the Economic Development Board for Tacoma-Pierce County, a nonprofit which focuses on growing and retaining local jobs.

Kilmer added, "Our veterans and their families will play a major role in reviving our economy, and I am committed to working to help them transition into civilian employment by expanding educational opportunities, creating family-wage jobs, supporting veteran-owned businesses, and protecting the services they depend on."

Veterans, service members, and their family members who are interested in joining Veterans for Kilmer or participating in an event with Senator Kilmer and Major General Lowenburg may contact the Kilmer campaign by e-mailing or calling 360-460-8823.
