Issue Position: Budget/Fiscal Responsibility

Our federal deficit is out of control and it must be addressed. I think the best way to solve our budget problems is to put people back to work, invest wisely, demand accountability, cut unneeded spending, and stop rewarding corporations that send our jobs overseas.

Every year that I've been in the State Senate, I've worked with Republicans and Democrats alike to pass a balanced budget. I've worked across the aisle to make sure that our state doesn't spend money that it doesn't have. Lawmakers in Washington should be following this example, not increasing the national deficit and passing this problem down to our children and grandchildren.

There are certainly areas where our federal government can cut spending, but I don't think we're going to cut our way into prosperity or create jobs by giving more tax breaks to big corporations and millionaires. I believe economic propserity depends on a Middle Class with money in their pockets. This means we solve our budget problems when we put people back to work. We need to stop spending government money on contracts with companies overseas when we have businesses here in our own country that can manufacture the same products. The American government should be investing in American made products and American workers. When we stop spending our taxpayer dollars overseas, we create jobs here at home, and not in China.

When working class families are struggling to make ends meet, we shouldn't be giving tax breaks to big corporations that hire workers in other countries and write their CEOs $15 million bonus checks. We solve our deficit problem by putting people back to work and government tightening its belt.
