Statement From Congressman Carney On The Attack Of The U.S. Consulate In Benghazi

Congressman John Carney (D-DE) issued the following statement today on the deaths of four American citizens, including U.S. Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens, during the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

"I join President Obama and Secretary Clinton in condemning the senseless attacks that took the lives of four Americans last night in Benghazi, including the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens," said Congressman Carney. "The video that led to this violence was offensive. At the core of American values, however, is the principle of free speech, and in that light, these attacks are particularly heinous. American diplomats make great sacrifices to represent the United States' principles, values, and priorities around the world. The four victims of this tragedy worked closely with the people and government leaders of Libya, particularly in recent months as the nation works through very difficult and unsettled times. My thoughts and prayers are with their families and loved ones."
