Patrick Thompson Announces Candidacy for Congressional District 11

Statement

Date: Sept. 17, 2012
Location: Woodstock, GA

Patrick Thompson is pleased to refresh his commitment to the people of the newly redrawn 11th Congressional District.

Thompson said, "There have been times throughout American history when we've experienced effective government representation and when your elected officials truly worked for you. They put citizen's needs above lobby money, political parties, media, power and personal ambition. Our democracy is not functioning that way today and is in need of repair."

Patrick is running for Congress to work across party lines to get the business of the people done. Like many Americans, he has personally experienced the outsourcing of American jobs, major bank credit card rates climbing, homes and neighbors in his area foreclose, developers go bankrupt leaving entire developments and shopping centers empty, huge losses in retirement funds, the rising cost of health insurance, the burdensome cost of higher education, and the economic pain of lack of infrastructure planning for necessities like transportation, food safety, fuel and water. All this is happening while our legislators do as little as possible to maintain their positions of power.

Patrick has worked as a public-school educator, government employee, high-tech business manager, and small company entrepreneur. He currently works to translate many of his IT business lessons into creating new careers for Georgians through innovative renewable technology and energy efficiency endeavors.

"Citizens of this area have told me they want a focus on improving career creation and continuity, support and restore education as a career multiplier, increase economic activity with public and private investments in infrastructure, and move to smarter energy and efficiency solutions," said Thompson.

Patrick seeks to unseat long-time incumbent Phil Gingrey and is part of a growing slate of candidates across the country running on a very limited budget while accepting no lobbyist money or gifts.

Thompson concluded, "Effective government should manage a responsible budget that runs on fair markets, fair elections and regulated capitalism. People need to start asking why during an age of war and economic crisis, our legislators are vacationing, stumping and fundraising -- this isn't what we hired them to do."
