Today Congressman Dan Lungren (R-Gold River, CA) commented on news from the Sacramento Bee that Vision Service Plan of Rancho Cordova (VSP), one of the regions important companies, is threatening to leave the state due to California's rollout of the federal health care law. VSP employs 2,100 people in the Sacramento Region, provides vision insurance coverage for 14 million Californians and a total of 58 million Americans. Congressman Lungren gave the following statement:
"Here is yet another example of how big government overreach into the marketplace undercuts jobs in our community - not to mention business confidence in our economy. The myriad of federal and state rules and regulations emanating as a consequence of the federal health care law is impairing economic growth and lessoning the freedom of patients to make decisions about their own health insurance.
"Once again, we find that the federal health care law is not a good fit for the American people or for Californians. VSP not only employs a large number of people in our region, it provides quality coverage for millions of Americans. We need to be doing all we can to keep jobs in our region and working to get not only our state but also our national economy moving again. The last thing we need is the loss of 2,100 jobs."
