U.S. Rep. Ron Barber's Statement on Attack in Libya that Killed Four Americans

U.S. Rep. Ron Barber today issued the following statement on yesterday's attack on the U.S. diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya in which four Americans were killed. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens was among those who died.

I am outraged by the senseless assault on the United States diplomatic facility in Libya -- an unprovoked attack in which four Americans were murdered.

This violent incident underscores the dedication of members of the United States diplomatic corps who daily strive to bring the American message of liberty, justice and freedom to every corner of the globe.

It is especially poignant that this outbreak of mob brutality came one day after we observed the 11th anniversary of another wanton attack on American citizens.

We must take every conceivable step to bring to justice those who participated in the murder of these brave Americans. And we must do everything possible to ensure that other United States diplomats around the world can perform their jobs without fear.

The ideals of these four Americans will never be forgotten by freedom-loving citizens of every nation. My thoughts and prayers are with their families, their loved ones and their colleagues.
