Johnson Announces More than $1 Million for Sioux Falls Non-Profit

U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD), Chairman of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee, announced today that Volunteers of America, Dakotas will receive a $1,064,888 federal grant. The funding, from the Department of Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem Program, will be used to help homeless veterans transition from the streets into a home. Volunteers of America, Dakotas will use the funding to support 25 homeless veterans a day.

"Earlier this year, I saw firsthand the important work Volunteers of America, Dakotas is doing in Sioux Falls to reduce veterans' homelessness," said Johnson. "As Chairman, one of my top priorities is making sure all of our veterans have a place to call home. We have made progress, but there is still work to do."

As Chairman, in Fiscal Year 2012, Johnson helped to secure $939 million in funding to address veterans' homelessness. This includes $202 million for Housing and Urban Development and Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing vouchers to help place veterans in permanent housing, as well as $224 million for the Transitional Housing Grant & Per Diem Program.
