Statement

As of yesterday afternoon, our nation has now accumulated more than $16 trillion in debt. That works out to almost $51,000 for every American.

The past four years have seen the largest explosion in our debt in history, and it is well past time that we regain fiscal control. In the House, we have passed responsible budgets that make tough choices, but will also keep the American Dream alive and well for our children and grandchildren. Unfortunately, our Democratic colleagues in the Senate haven't passed a budget in more than three years.

We will continue fighting to cut spending and move to a smaller, smarter, more efficient government. It is clear that the current path is unsustainable -- stimulus spending doesn't work and will not work.
