Bill Johnson Statement on the August Jobs Report

Statement

Date: Sept. 7, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) released the following statement today after only 96,000 jobs were added to the economy in August, and nearly 400,000 more people dropped out of the workforce.

"August marks the 43rd consecutive month where unemployment has remained above 8%. President Obama's policies have failed Americans and they've hurt the hardworking people of Eastern and Southeastern Ohio. In fact, because of the Obama Administration's war on coal, the Obamacare mandates on small businesses, and a host of other regulatory actions, 9 counties in Eastern and Southeastern Ohio, including Jefferson, Columbiana, and Mahoning, have July unemployment rates above the national average. Coal miners are finding themselves on the unemployment lines. Hardworking Ohio families are paying more for health insurance and they are seeing their incomes reduced as a result of President Obama's failed policies. Small businesses up and down the Ohio River are telling me that the President's policies are keeping them from hiring and expanding," said Bill Johnson.

Johnson added, "We must solve America's unemployment crisis and put our nation back to work. I'm willing to work with ANYONE -- Democrat or Republican -- to make this happen. Putting America back to work isn't a Democrat or Republican issue. It's an American issue. "
