Hayworth Statement on the 11th Anniversary of the September 11th Attacks

Statement

Date: Sept. 11, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, M.D. (NY-19) released the following statement in remembrance of the victims of the attacks on September 11, 2001:

"11 years ago this morning, any illusions we may have had about our nation being safe from foreign terrorist acts on our own soil were shattered. Our Hudson Valley lost residents who were simply doing their daily work at the World Trade Center, and many more who were doing the work they were called to do as first responders, giving their lives in order to save the lives of others. The attacks on New York, on the Pentagon, and on the jet that went down in Shanksville, Pennsylvania killed nearly 3,000 people, and in the years since that day of shock and devastation 6,570 American fighting men and women have died in the wars our country has fought to prevent another 9/11. This past summer I attended the funerals of two of our finest young Army Majors, both alumni of West Point, who had lost their lives defending freedom in Afghanistan.

"While the lives of a generation now coming of age have been marked by the events of September 11, 2001, they have been raised to have resolve, courage, resilience, and a deep sense of patriotism. Our birthright as Americans is freedom from tyranny, wherever it may threaten us. We will not yield and we will not falter. In the Hudson Valley we remember the fallen and we honor them by supporting those who follow in their footsteps. May God bless all of them and every one of us in this exceptional and enduring country, and may every one of our soldiers still fighting the war against terror return safely home."
