Hayworth Statement on August Jobless Numbers

Statement

Date: Sept. 7, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, M.D. (NY-19) released the following statement today regarding the August unemployment numbers released by the United States Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.

"Is anyone in the Hudson Valley really surprised by the latest awful unemployment statistics? Sadly, I'm sure the answer is No--because I've been listening to the people I serve for more than three years now--and they've told me that our economic stagnation is hard to understand and impossible to accept. And I am determined to help them--and their neighbors and friends and relatives--have the better opportunities they need and deserve.

"We can do this. We can grow our economy if the government takes less of our hard-earned money in taxes and makes the system fair and simple. We can help our small businesses, and our large employers too, by cutting unnecessary red tape that holds back hiring. We can make health insurance easy to afford without adding massively to a national debt that now exceeds $16 Trillion. We can do a lot of good if we have the cooperation of the Senate and the President. I'll continue reaching across the aisle and working every day to help every one of the constituents I serve have a better future."
