Florida Alliance for Retired Americans Endorse Keith Fitzgerald

Press Release

Today, the Florida Alliance for Retired Americans (FLARA) endorsed former state representative Keith Fitzgerald in the Florida's 16th congressional race against Congressman Vern Buchanan at their quarterly meeting in Tampa. Fitzgerald's opponent, Congressman Vern Buchanan, on the other hand, earned a failing score of 0% last year for his votes on retiree issues, according to the Alliance for Retired Americans 2011 Voting Record.

Tony Fransetta, President of FLARA, said "Keith Fitzgerald is the clear choice to represent the interests of Florida seniors in Washington. Keith has made protecting Medicare and Social Security a center piece of his campaign. Over 3 million Florida seniors rely on Medicare and Social Security. Unlike Congressman Vern Buchanan, we trust that Keith Fitzgerald will be a strong voice in opposing efforts to turn Medicare into a voucher system and privatize Social Security."

Upon receiving FLARA's endorsement, Keith Fitzgerald said, "I am honored to receive the endorsement from the Florida Alliance for Retired Americans. Over 170,000 seniors in Sarasota and Manatee counties see first-hand benefits of Medicare. I have pledged to support and protect Social Security and Medicare, and in Congress I will fight back against plans, like those supported by Congressmen Vern Buchanan and Paul Ryan, that would dismantle these vital and important programs."

The Alliance for Retired Americans represents over 4 million retirees and community activists, including over 200,000 in Florida.
