Issue Position: Jobs and Businesses

The only way we will beat this recession is to get people back to work and keep good-paying jobs in Kansas. While working in a small company, I see how difficult and rewarding it is to do business here--we need to help businesses operate easier and invest in job-creation and growth.

The Kansas unemployment rate stands around 6.1%. About 192,000 Kansans still can't find jobs and those who are employed, are struggling to make ends meet. Small businesses are the engine of job creation--responsible for two out of every three new jobs in the United States. Kansas must renew its commitment to providing economic opportunity and security for everyone. And that means combining the best ideas--from both sides of the aisle--to stimulate our economy. We will get through this recession and things will get better, but we need all hands on deck to beat this recession.

I will work with fellow business owners to write a bill designed to help small businesses increase cash flow so we can hire and retain workers and invest in more equipment and machinery. In addition, health care, retirement, and other costs rise year after year. There are ways to find savings and increase efficiencies to keep workers employed and maintain benefits. The bottom line is we need to get people back to work, ensure businesses and wage growth, and support local businesses in Shawnee--and the rest of Kansas.
