Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman John Tierney, Ranking Member of the House Oversight Committee's Subcommittee on National Security, Homeland Defense and Foreign Operations, released the following statement on the attack that killed U.S. Ambassador to Libya J. Christopher Stevens and three other embassy staff:

"While too often unheralded, the work being done by the thousands of U.S. civilians and diplomats overseas is of critical importance to advancing our national security priorities and - as this attack in Libya evidences - can be dangerous. I join with my colleagues in Congress and people across the country in condemning this senseless attack, expressing profound sadness at the death of Ambassador Stevens and the three other Americans, and offering my deepest condolences to their families and loved ones."
