Congresswoman Niki Tsongas released the following statement in observation of the eleventh anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
"On September 11, 2001, the strength of our nation was tested, our spirit shaken and our way of life challenged. America mourned the loss of nearly 3,000 loved ones, friends and colleagues, many from our own backyard in the Massachusetts Fifth District, as the senselessness of hatred was made real upon our soil.
But on that day, America's resolve fortified in spite of extreme hatred. Police, firefighters, EMS, National Guard members, first responders and everyday citizens prevented further loss of life by risking their own. Eleven years later, the spirit of our nation is stronger thanks to their extraordinary acts of heroism.
And, we especially must remember the men and women who our nation has called upon over the last 11 years to serve on our behalf and protect our freedom around the globe.
On this somber anniversary, let the memory of those we lost be a unifying strength for our nation and inspire us to move forward together."
