Today, Congressman Joe Donnelly released the following statement on the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.
"As we mark the eleventh anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, we honor the memory of all those who lost their lives that day. We will always remember the heroes of that fateful event--the firefighters and first responders, the rescue-workers, and all who perished in the Pentagon, World Trade Center, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Moving forward, we will remain vigilant to ensure that a tragedy like this one never happens again.
"Countless individuals selflessly assisted the victims of these attacks, and we thank them for their bravery and sacrifice. The efforts of our first responders keep us safe, and we appreciate their commitment and sacrifice. We also thank the men and women in uniform who have fought and continue to fight for our country overseas against enemies who remain intent on causing harm to the American people. Through their efforts, Americans can rest assured that we are well protected against possible future attacks.
"On this day, let us come together not only to remember the tragedy that occurred, but also to celebrate the American spirit. Eleven years ago, we saw the true spirit of this country: first responders running into harm's way, everyday men and women on a plane sacrificing their lives to preempt another attack, and hundreds of people lining up at the blood bank to help their fellow citizens. The patriotism demonstrated by the American people reminds us that our love of country unites us all."
