Location: Long Beach, CA

Today, Congresswoman Laura Richardson announced that the Substance Abuse Foundation of Long Beach (SAF) is the recipient of a $400,000 grant from the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment. The grant was awarded as part of the Substance Abuse, Mental Health, Recovery and Transitional Services Project.

SAF has been an outstanding community leader for 23 years, providing affordable, professional community-based drug and alcohol treatment for people of diverse backgrounds. This grant award will help SAF to improve and expand their many services, including residential and outpatient care, supportive services, and aftercare.

"As a Member of Congress, I understand that we must focus on cost effective, evidence-based practices that strengthen our local communities. Research has shown that, for most individuals, recovery works best in a community-based setting, and SAF is a model program," said Congresswoman Laura Richardson. "During my time in Washington, I have fully and eagerly supported legislation that supports these types of grant programs, and I am proud to continue doing my part to strengthen these important services in the 37th Congressional District."

"I thank the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment for granting this funding, and I offer my sincere congratulations to SAF," said Congresswoman Richardson.
