As a former U.S. Marine Colonel with 28 years of experience, including a tour of combat in Iraq, my priority will always be the protection of our democracy.

Our defense policies need to have a focus on terrorism while simultaneously addressing traditional challenges, such as protecting the sea lanes, maintaining our dominance in space, and working closely with our NATO allies.

The largest discretionary expenditure in our federal budget is defense. As a military officer assigned to the Pentagon, I saw defense expenditures forced by Congress that were unneeded and unwanted by our military. Congress needs members who have relevant experience for making decisions concerning the equipment and structure of our military in an ever-changing threat environment.

We should never forget the sacrifice of our veterans and their families, and I will make sure they receive the care and resources they deserve once they return home.
