U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement regarding President Obama's failure to meet the statutory deadline for submitting a report detailing the impact of sequestration on defense and non-defense programs. Under the Sequestration Transparency Act, which Senator Ayotte co-sponsored and which was signed into law on August 7, the president was required to submit the report to Congress by midnight on Thursday, September 6.
"Unfortunately, I am not surprised that this administration has once again acted above the law and missed a statutorily imposed deadline. With less than four months to go, Americans deserve to know how these devastating defense cuts will be implemented. This avoidable national security crisis demands presidential leadership, and it's deeply troubling that our commander in chief continues to ignore the dire warnings of his own defense secretary."
