Gov. Perry Recognizes 11th Anniversary of September 11th Terrorist Attacks

Statement

Date: Sept. 11, 2012
Location: Austin, TX

Today I join you in commemorating the 11th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

On a Tuesday morning 11 years ago, we watched in horror as terrorists hijacked four of our commercial airliners, attacked the United States and killed nearly 3,000 civilians on our soil.

We honor the parents, children, brothers and sisters whose lives were tragically cut short by those acts of hatred, and the men and women in uniform who bravely stepped up to serve.

In the aftermath, we witnessed heroic rescue efforts, a surge of patriotism and a display of great dignity. People at home and abroad rallied together in support, proudly flying American flags in unity and reverence.

We rose above the ashes with compassion and courage. Our country, once again, proved to be a bastion of freedom - whose people fiercely uphold liberty with an enduring optimism that no attack can weaken.

First Lady Anita Perry joins me in extending our best wishes on this solemn occasion.

RICK PERRY
Governor of Texas
