Leader Cantor Statement on the August Jobs Report

Statement

Date: Sept. 7, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Today House Majority Leader Eric Cantor released the following statement on the national unemployment report for the month of August:

"Quite simply, these jobs numbers aren't good enough. As we paid tribute to hardworking Americans this week, those still without jobs are at the forefront of our minds. The greatest challenge to getting Americans back to work is the uncertainty facing our nation. Will the government continue to sap capital and growth from the economy? Will struggling small business owners face a massive tax increase come January 1st? Will Democrats join us to prevent spending cuts from hurting our national security and eliminating jobs?

"Results matter. Over the past three and a half years, we haven't seen results. Young Americans are growing up in a jobless economy, middle class families face more hardships and our nation is losing ground globally. Republicans have a vision for an economy driven by private sector innovation so more jobs can be created and more working families can provide for their families and save for their children's education. We need to focus on keeping taxes low and cutting red tape so small businesses can start growing and hiring again. America can lead the world again and we have a prescription to do it."
