Recipients of Kirkpatrick's Stimulus Bill: Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann

Press Release

Date: Aug. 30, 2012

The waste in Ann Kirkpatrick's trillion dollar failed stimulus bill has been well documented, but here's a new one: Taxpayer dollars were used to pay for pro-Obama administration ads to run during MSNBC's Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann shows.

A new report shows the Labor Department paid nearly $500,000 from the Kirkpatrick-backed stimulus for MSNBC to run the ads, providing zero jobs and only promoting the administration's failed policies.

"We have a real problem in this country when Arizona taxpayers are forced to support Rachel Maddow and Keith Olbermann," said Republican Jonathan Paton. "This is beyond outrageous. Ann Kirkpatrick's reckless spending policies have made our economy worse. Kirkpatrick is lining the pockets of MSNBC executives as Arizonans struggle to get by."

In contrast, Paton has a record of government transparency and fiscal conservatism. As a state Senator, he was awarded the Freedom of Information Award for three years in a row by the Arizona Newspaper Association for sponsoring legislation to make government more open and accountable to taxpayers. And Paton was named "Champion of the Taxpayer" by the Arizona Federation of Taxpayers.
