1st Congressional District candidate Jimmy Farris responded today to news that Congress has hit an all-time low approval rating of 10 percent.

Farris says that much of the dissatisfaction with Congress' performance comes from their failure to find a solution to the nation's budget crisis. Many Republicans have been willing to work on the problem; Idaho lawmakers Senator Mike Crapo and Congressman Mike Simpson have served on the Gang of Six and Go Big committees, respectively -- bipartisan committees that attempted to work together to find balanced solutions to the budget problem. Congressmen Raul Labrador and Paul Ryan, however, have been unwilling to work toward a bipartisan resolution.

"The American public is disgusted with Congress because of the behavior of lawmakers like Congressmen Raul Labrador and Paul Ryan," said Farris. "Congress can't meet a budget solution because of the gridlock that results from Labrador and Ryan consistently choosing partisanship above solutions. There was an opportunity to reach a resolution with the "grand bargain', but Ryan killed it. Senator Crapo was part of trying to work out a solution with the Gang of Six, but Ryan killed it. Congressman Simpson was part of trying to work out a solution with the Go Big Committee, but Ryan killed it. Labrador has supported Ryan all along the way. Their stubborn unwillingness to do what's right is the problem."

"I spent years in the NFL working with people of different backgrounds and ideologies to accomplish our goals," Farris continued. "That is the same work ethic that I will take to Washington. I will not put political grandstanding above finding solutions. I believe that helping people who are struggling to better their lives is more important than furthering a personal agenda. Labrador and Ryan don't seem to feel that way."
