Rep. Benishek's Allies Lie in Recent Attack Ad

Following a coffee hour with U.P. seniors, Gary McDowell commented on the latest attempt by Congressman Benishek's Washington allies to confuse voters about his position to protect and strengthen Medicare. In contrast, Congressman Benishek lied to Michigan seniors and voted to end Medicare as we know it and force seniors to pay thousands more for their health care.

"I think everyone is tired of the same old political attacks that take comments out of context. What we really need to do is come together to protect and strengthen Medicare for seniors -- not force seniors to pay $6,400 a year more for their Medicare like Congressman Benishek voted to," said Gary McDowell.

The ad from Congressman Benishek's Washington allies takes McDowell's comments about reducing the cost of healthcare out of context. McDowell was participating in a larger discussion about keeping the rising cost of care down for seniors -- not care at the end of life as the ad would have voters believe.

"Congressman Benishek and his special interest allies in the drug and insurance industry aren't serious about protecting Medicare, they just care about protecting profits and perks for themselves," McDowell continued.

"Congressman Benishek would rather force seniors to pay $6400 a year out of pocket for their care rather than fix the underlying problems of skyrocketing costs."

Gary McDowell recently concluded his "Save our Retirement" listening tour where he travelled across Northern Michigan and the U.P. pledging to protect and strengthen Medicare for current and future retirees.
