Alexander Statement on Court Reversal of EPA's Cross-State Air-Pollution Rule

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement on a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia that overturns the EPA's cross-state air-pollution rule, which sought to regulate the amount of air pollution states would have to clean up to avoid violations in neighboring states:

"Since I was elected to the Senate, I have proposed that Congress, not the EPA, set clear standards for controlling pollution from power plants and give utilities a reasonable time to comply. This is the EPA's second attempt in two different administrations to act in this area, and today's decision clearly throws the responsibility for action back to Congress where it belongs."
