Boustany: "VA's Carelessness Should Not Penalize Local Veterans."

Statement

Date: Aug. 23, 2012
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Veterans

Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement after sending Congressman Jeff Miller, Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, a letter with the latest updates regarding the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) in Lafayette and Lake Charles:

"Once again, when officials at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) fail to pay attention to detail, the veterans of South Louisiana are left to suffer. I wrote Chairman Jeff Miller to inform him of yet another mistake committed by the VA. These clinics have been discussed since 2008. VA Secretary Eric Shinseki should explain why VA officials ignored their legal obligation to request authorized funding from Congress. The end of the year is fast approaching, so why hasn't the VA submitted its formal request? Why wasn't this done years ago?

"I will continue working to expedite these clinics. VA errors must not result in additional delays in honoring the VA's commitment to our nation's veterans."
