Today, the Deb Fischer for U.S. Senate campaign announced the Educators For Fischer Coalition.

The Educators For Fischer Advisory Board will be recruiting additional Nebraska teachers, educators, and administrators to become a part of the Educators For Fischer Coalition.

State Senator Deb Fischer has an extensive background in education. Her mother, Florence Strobel, was an elementary school teacher in the Lincoln Public Schools System.

After moving to Valentine with her husband Bruce, Fischer became involved in in local and statewide education associations. She was originally elected to the Valentine Rural High School Board of Education, and later became state president of the Nebraska Association of School Boards.

In 1999, Fischer was honored with the Nebraska Association of School Boards Lifetime Achievement Award and the Nebraska Rural Community Schools Association Outstanding Board Member Award.

Fischer was also appointed by Governor Ben Nelson to serve on the Nebraska School Finance Review Committee.

She was also a commissioner on the Nebraska Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education.

State Sen. Fischer has called on the Federal Government to give states and local school districts more freedom and flexibility to make their own decisions to best suit the needs of students.

"I'm honored to have the support of some of Nebraska's top educators," said U.S. Senate candidate Deb Fischer. "Education has always been an issue I am passionate about, and I have a first-hand understanding of how important it is to empower teachers, parents, and administrators to make the decisions that are best for students. As a U.S. Senator, I will be an advocate for states to have more leeway in developing standards and policies that best suit the needs of their local school districts."

Nebraska Educators Talk About Why They Support Deb Fischer:

"State Senator Deb Fischer knows very well that local communities--not government bureaucrats--know what is best for students. I am confident that Deb will work with both Democrats and Republicans in Washington in finding ways to better our nation's public education system."

"Our country would be lucky to have a U.S. Senator like Deb who has been long-time leader in education. From serving on local school boards to serving on statewide education organizations, Deb knows what it will take to improve our nation's educational system. Her impressive background combined with her bipartisan record in the Legislature will make her an outstanding representative in Washington."

"Deb Fischer has proven her commitment to providing Nebraska's children with quality education. She understands that decisions are best made at the local level, and will continue to be an advocate for giving local school districts more freedom and flexibility so they can better serve students."
