I believe firmly in a progressive income tax structure. We have moved away from income taxes and towards property taxes, fees, sales tax and other forms of regressive taxation. While it is true that folks with more money often buy more things and use more services, I do not believe that additional money in the pockets of the wealthy create as many jobs as more money in the pockets of the middle class. For instance, when someone in the middle class moves up in income, they might hire someone to mow their lawn, or do some house cleaning or they might buy a new appliance. When someone already has all of those services and has bought all the new things they need, there comes a point where an additional $50,000 in their pocket will not lead to increased activity in the conomy. If ones income is over $1,000,000 a year, I find it hard to believe that there needs to be a lower tax so that somehow that would stimulate the economy.
