As a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and lifelong advocate of the Second Amendment, Congressman Marchant believes in an individual right to keep and bear arms. Throughout his career, Congressman Marchant has fought to protect and uphold the Second Amendment rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution. Based on his solidly pro-gun voting record, Congressman Marchant has earned a lifetime "A' rating from the NRA.

Congressman Marchant signed the historic amicus brief submitted to the U.S. Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller, supporting the position that gun rights and the right of self-defense are individual rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

Congressman Marchant signed the amicus brief submitted to the U.S. Supreme Court in McDonald v. City of Chicago, supporting the position that the Second Amendment applies to state and local governments through the Fourteenth Amendment.

Congressman Marchant cosponsored the Citizens' Self-Defense Act of 2009, which would protect the right to obtain firearms for security, and to use firearms in defense of self, family, or home.

Congressman Marchant cosponsored the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2009, which would establish a national standard for the carrying of concealed firearms by non-residents who have a valid permit to carry a concealed firearm in another state.

Congressman Marchant cosponsored the Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act, which would remove antiquated and unnecessary restrictions imposed on interstate firearms transactions.

Congressman Marchant cosponsored the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Modernization and Reform Act of 2009, which would make it easier for gun owners and dealers to comply with federal law and regulations, while ensuring that criminals are punished accordingly.
