Johnson Applauds White House on Drought Action, Urges House to Pass Farm Bill

U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) today applauded the Obama Administration for taking additional steps to help farmers and ranchers battling terrible drought conditions. While Johnson believes South Dakota agriculture producers would be much better off if the House of Representatives passed the bipartisan Senate farm bill, he is encouraged by the announcement.

"I am encouraged by the White House stepping up with a broad array of proposals, elements of which will help limit the damage of drought," said Johnson. "However, we need a long-term solution. By leaving town without considering the five-year farm bill, the House of Representatives did a disservice to rural America. Instead of being controlled by the fringe elements of their party, the House should stand up for our agriculture producers and give them the certainty they need during this difficult time."
