Hayworth Votes to Stop Largest Tax Increase in History

Statement

Date: Aug. 1, 2012
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Taxes

Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, M.D. (NY-19) released the following statement this evening regarding passage of HR 8, the Job Protection and Recession Prevention Act of 2012, in a bipartisan 256-171 vote.

"The House has taken action tonight to prevent the largest tax increase in American history from hitting hardworking families and small business owners suffering in this dismal economy. We need to grow our economy and we could do that if we had lower taxes and less red tape. Reforming our flawed tax code will require long-term thinking and careful planning, not the largest tax increase in our country's history. Extending the entirety of the 2001 and 2003 tax rates for at least one year will provide assurance, certainty, and relief to hard-pressed taxpayers. And avoiding next year's fiscal cliff is critical for the small business owners and employers we depend upon to provide jobs, investment, and economic opportunity."
