Dr. Dan: "Michigan's Unemployment Rate is Too High"

Statement

Dr. Dan Benishek released the following statement today regarding the disappointing Michigan unemployment numbers for the month of May, which rose from 8.3 percent to 8.5 percent:

"Last week President Obama said "the private sector is doing fine,' but Michigan's unemployment rate tells a different story. The private sector is not doing fine and I have been hearing about it from the small business owners I have been meeting with during my "100 in 100' small business tour. Small business leaders throughout the district have been telling me about how the Federal government is hampering their growth. Michigan should have a lower unemployment rate than this. What Michigan job creators need is the President and the Washington liberals to repeal the healthcare law, to stop the over-reaching regulations and to stop threatening higher taxes. "

"Northern Michigan's small businesses, the backbone of our economy, are finding it impossible to grow with the current policies being created in Washington. We need a less intrusive Federal government, one that encourages growth and more hiring. The current Michigan unemployment numbers are a reflection of the poor business climate being created by the Washington liberals."

"I know Northern Michigan can do better and I know we will. We have to because our children and grandchildren depend on it."
