House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) praised the passage of the Job Protection and Recession Prevention Act (H.R. 8), saying:
"Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to avert a tax hike on America's families and businesses that would have devastating effects on our nation's economy when we can least afford it. This is a temporary solution to create a window of opportunity next year for meaningful, comprehensive tax reform that lowers the rates, broadens the base, eliminates loopholes and makes America more competitive in a global economy. House Republicans are committed to fundamental tax reform to help spur economic growth and simplify our system of taxation.
"Because the Constitution mandates that all tax bills originate in the U.S. House of Representatives, we call on Senate Majority Leader Reid to take up and debate this tax legislation drafted and passed by the House. Only then can we work toward a final agreement to prevent a $4 trillion tax hike on America's families and job creators."
