Bachmann Stands with Small Business Owners, Votes to Stop Obama's Tax Hikes

Statement

Date: Aug. 1, 2012
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Taxes

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) released the following statement today after voting to stop President Obama's tax hikes on America's small business owners:

"After 41 straight months of 8 percent unemployment, it is clear that President Obama's economic policies have failed. Increasing taxes on small business owners in the middle of a recession is not the answer.

"Small businesses are the backbone of America's economy and raising their taxes will not help them create one single job. In fact, President Obama's tax hikes would destroy more than 700,000 jobs according to a study by Ernst & Young. Americans desperately need more jobs, not more tax increases.

"As I meet with business owners in Minnesota, they tell me that the economic uncertainty coming from Washington is the top reason why they're not hiring and growing their business. Hardworking business owners need their elected officials to work with them, not against them. I am proud to vote today to stop President Obama's tax hikes and lay the groundwork for a tax code that is simpler, flatter, and fairer."
