General Business Climate: Which of the following statements best describes your view on improving Alaska's business climate?: Alaska is ranked near the bottom in several national surveys as a place to do business. We need tort reform, worker's compensation reform, and other reforms to improve our standing among the U.S. states. The Federal government still controls 65% of Alaska's selected lands, lack of title restricts opportunity; therefore, the Legislature must fight for possession of Alaska's land titles. Further, the permitting process needs to be streamlined in order to create wealth, opportunity and jobs for Alaskans. It should NOT take 14-28 years--one half to a total career of a newly graduated mining engineer, for example, to permit a mine which creates opportunity only for government and those opposed to a proposal or project.
