As a Legislator, what would be my top policy issue?:
My top policy issue is stated in Alaska Constitution Article 8, Section 2 and 12 "The legislature shall provide for the utilization, development, and conservation of all natural resources belonging to the State, including land and waters, for the maximum benefit of its people," including the issuance of leases.
Developing regional, diversified economies, gives more people the opportunity to live where they choose, to work good paying jobs, to have the pride of accomplishment, the ability to pay their own bills and to provide for their families; it decreases the State's nearly $3 billion expenses that provide a social safety net, and it reduces the stress in families and in society which means there is less domestic violence or other crimes, and therefore fewer people in the correctional system. It's not a cure-all, but when the legislature concentrates on liberating the economy, people are empowered to be in charge of their own destinies. Alaska Constitution, Article 1.2 states, "All political power is inherent in the people. All government originates with the people, is founded upon their will only, and is instituted
SOLELY for the good of the people AS A WHOLE" (emphasis added).
