Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (MD-4) testified today before the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Human Rights on the need for a constitutional amendment to address the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision and its impact. The hearing, titled "Taking Back Our Democracy: Responding to Citizens United and the Rise of Super PACs," is the first of its kind in this Congress.
"The Supreme Court has closed the door to reasonable laws to regulate campaign finance," testified Congresswoman Edwards. "Except for disclosure, the constitutional amendment door is all that remains open. We owe it to the American people to find consensus and walk through it."
Congresswoman Edwards testified in the first Members panel with Senators Baucus (D-MT), Sanders (D-VT), and Udall (D-NM). Her full testimony is included.
