Schools in Greater Minnesota face unique challenges, including declining enrollment and
long bus rides for kids. I will continue my advocacy for fair funding for our schools and targeted aid for new technology. Minnesotans deserve a world-class education no matter what corner of the state their school is located. I voted against the "school shift' which borrowed money we owe to our schools in order to maintain current state operating expenses. Borrowing against our kids' futures is wrong, and I will work to reverse the shift and prevent it from happening again.
I also believe that investment in higher education is vital to growing our local economy and providing our local industry and business with a quality and ready workforce. That's why I worked to secure $537,000 dollars for Hibbing Community College to overhaul their science labs and equipment. This money was appropriated in the 2012 bonding bill, and construction is underway at HCC. This will allow students to learn in classrooms that can prepare them for today's workforce.
