Boustany Promotes Good Government and Saving Taxpayer Dollars

Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D. (R-South Louisiana), released the following statement after hosting a press conference this morning on Capitol Hill to discuss the newly introduced bill: the No Show, No Pay Act, H.R. 6085. Joined by Reps. John Barrow (D-GA) and Leonard Lance (R-NJ), Boustany outlined the purpose of this bipartisan legislation: hold Members accountable for not doing their job and missing votes:

"At a time when national unemployment remains critically high and millions of Americans are searching for work, many Members of Congress are not showing up for their job. The No Show, No Pay Act seeks to end the days of Members skipping out on votes to attend campaign events.

"Last Tuesday, 42 Members of Congress missed votes without an excused absence. Implementing the No Show, No Pay legislation would dock these Members their pay while saving taxpayers almost $50,000 this week alone. This money would stay in the U.S. Treasury. Serving in Congress is an honor accompanied by a duty to vote. It's time some Members treat it that way."
